The Melody of Me

The Melody of Me

By Hayley Milligan

My day starts with Mom yelling “ Wake up”

I scream “ 5 more minutes”

I rush down stairs

Hovering over my big bowl of Rice Krispies

Snapping, crackling, and popping

Walking the weird hallways hearing “ Have a Red Raider day! , housemasters on their walkie talkies, and students badgering me with “ Can I copy your homework? ”

Tapping my pencil to fidgeting in class

Math is a wretched prison

I boil with frustration

From tying shoes to eating gushers,

Playing with victor the squash,

To laughing and relaxing with the kiddos,

Everyone has a good time at the Halls’ house

Gunnar and Drew singing Big Rock Candy Mountain

As they wait for the cat Imagene to sing along

I run to my 2nd home

I see my crazy cousins in the window

Happy go lucky playing charades or fighting to the death over Lite Bright

Aunty Max says “Come on in ,Raizy”

Tasting fresh baked Chocolate chip cookies,

Sipping lemon tea when I’m sick,

Mom making Spaghetti Pie,

Reminiscing into my sweet childhood

I am at home

I hit the pillow with Trixie snuggled up to me,

As we drift off to sleep

To the sound of her purring
