What I remember about that day is

covered eyes,

being carried into the pasture,

allowed to see again,

spotting a beautiful gray quarter horse,

riding up and down the rode,

discovering a first love,

the love of

           being accepted,

                          desired,

                                   needed,

                                        and being loved in return

finding the only one who would

                                       keep,

                                          protect,

                                                 warm,

                                                       and save,

a scared little girl from

                           self hatred,

                                          fear,

                                              and loneliness,

a mother and daughter

building a connection

bursting in to fits of laughter

         but thinking,

                       saying,

                   remembering,

nothing about

                the fight,

                 the broken glass

                      or the night before.
