Mask of Assimilation

Every morning is the same task
Time to wake up and put on your mask
The mask worn to represent assimilation
Even though its not you, the world tells you "Here, just take it and wear it"

Because apparently your true flesh does not conform to society
And you begin to wear this mask continuously
But hey, don't feel any resentment because it's not only you
See your friend over there? They've got one too

As hard as it may be to believe
Everyone has a mask and aren't who they seem to be
We are quick to judge those are fraud
But who are we to judge? We've all suffered the fall

The fall into a pit society has created
Pretending to be what we're not when we should show what we're truly made of
I'm slowly making my way out of the grimy pit
I've been there for years and its time to get out of it

And when I get out, I'll take off the mask I hate
Hopefully the world can see the beauty of my face
