The Mask

Location

United Kingdom

The mask hides the lows, it stands tall and strong,

It won’t reveal its true colours, if something is wrong.

Everything is great, don’t worry about me,

Life is fantastic, that’s all you will see.

In the shadows the mask slips and falls to the floor,

It’s tired of the show now and won’t play anymore.

It gets dark and sad for the rest of the day,

The mask is aware that things aren’t okay.

When the mask is resting, tears start to appear,

You hide in your despair and want nobody near.

A new day arrives, it will greet people and smile,

A happy go-lucky mask, no one will revile.

But the mask can be heavy and a burden each day,

It’s now become a captor of which you obey.

You hate the mask, it’s cruel and unkind,

It hides the real sadness that’s there in your mind.

The mask won’t burden anyone else with your woes,

It’s just too embarrassed to talk about lows.

Like the cover of a book, the words they don’t see,

You’re judged by the picture, all happy and carefree.

But never lose faith and have hope in your heart,

The mask can be beaten if you know where to start.

Start with perspective then be open about troubles,

Don’t let the mask win and hide all your struggles.

People will care if they were only to know,

That you’re fighting a battle and the mask’s there for show.

So remember to love and keep those in your mind,

Don’t judge them too quick and always be kind
