That Man

On a cold night in November

In the year of 1998

Two parents sat together

Awaiting their fate

On the 28th of November

Twin sons were born

How to tell them apart

In red and blue they were adorn

The twins grew up really fast

Because their parents were the best

But one day the mother left

Leaving the father the ultimate test

The man started anew

He changed with his kids

Never looking back

At the did nots and the dids

Later that man moved

Into a new home

Him and his three kids

So he was never alone

The man’s children were at school

And he was always at work

So he decided he needed some help

Or he was going to go berserk

Soon he remarried

And two more kids were thrown on his platter

But he realized that he was happy

And that didn’t matter

With his twin sons now teens in high school

And his daughter now gone away

He’d lost so much

But think of what he gained

A pair of determined twins

A loving, caring wife

A hardworking stepson

What else is there in life

The family faced many challenges

Whether they were good or bad

They embraced the outcome

Whether happy or sad

There’s too many IOU’s

In that family alone

And not enough I love you’s

To strike the point home

Sometimes the family

Is not always there for one another

And the man almost gives up

He sits and thinks, why do I bother

But then that man realizes why he’s here

That man is my father

This poem is about:
Me
My family
