Love without the Curtain

I try to hide myself

From everyone else

I am not ashamed

For I am not insane

But my heart yearns for love

From each and everyone

We are forced to wear a mask

In hopes that truth will be hidden like a flask

Behind the curtain

Is where we feel for certain

That we are safe

But slowly the secret will chafe

Because forever no one can hide

Whether low or high tide

Our true selves eventually emerge

And then society finds it acceptable to purge

Humans are really animals

Wishing they could be cannibals

Because hearts are always breaking

And people are always taking

But there is hope

We don't have to hold such a tight rope

We need to be who we really are

And love each other no matter the scar

The curtain only hides us for so long

Together as our true selves is where we belong

Please take this poem with you

And fix what you can with glue
