Love is not an Excuse

Wed, 11/08/2017 - 00:45 -- Msilva

Because I love you, I will try to make you happy

But sometimes even the brightest of smiles are facades on the most aching of souls

Because I love you, I will never abandon you

But sometimes this turns into an invitation for intrusion on personal space

Because I love you, I will want you to be successful

But sometimes their drive for success overpowers the desire for your own

Because I love you, I will naturally get jealous

But sometimes jealousy turns into manipulation

Because I love you, I will show affection towards you

But sometimes this leads to a “welcome any time” sign, not hung but chained to your body like it had to be there

Because I love you, I will get in arguments with you

But sometimes these words turn to fists and tears to blood and slowly “I love you” turns to “I fear you”

Because I love you

I know a smile only matters when there's love fueling it

I know personal boundaries still exist in relationships

I know we must both encourage each other to reach our full potentials

I know trust is necessary

I know being in a relationship is not excuse to take advantage of your body

I know arguing is normal, violence is not

Because I love you

I know “because I love you” is not an excuse

Love leaves no room for excuses.
