Love for the Better

Becuase you love me,

I don't feel the need to distance myself from reality.

Because your eyes sparkle when you look at me,

I want to smile so wide God can't even see the sadness beneath.

Because your hand is so gentle when you touch me,

I don't want to scar my skin with regrets.

Because your voice is the ocean waves,

I don't feel the current rocking me like it used to.

Because your heart is so open,

I cry because I now know what being cared about feels like.

I don't relinquish my power to my demons anymore,

not when you're there to hold me like I matter.

I try not to react to things in my usual negative manner because I know you deserve more.

I used to believe love was a myth people created to make life worth living.

You showed me a world where ultraviolet colors reigned,

and I, a self-tormented creature refusing to care for anyone, let you.

It only took a moment for you to change my life.

Now love is a myth that I live in because I will never deny you of anything,

whether it be my soda, the clothes off my back, or my heart.

Because you make me want to be so much better than I am.

Because I love you.
