Lost Words

I lost my poetry
The words on the paper
Don’t come until later
Cause I’m speechless

I reach into the darkness
Looking for letters
A, B, C, D, E, I, O, U
But they never come together

Cause when you left
When you gave me
Your last words
You took mine

The words were in text
But they confused me
So I said “what’s next”
And you said “goodbye”

I-
As I gave you me
You gave me I
A purpose, an I-dentity
And I loved you

Don’t-
As in DON’T leave
DON’T tenderly kiss me goodbye
As I falter like a leaf in autumn

Love-
L-O-V-E
Is what I thought you gave to me
And now my LOVE is lost

You-
YOU with your freckles & smile
What I’d crawl on my knees for miles
Just to gaze upon

Anymore-
As in if I had given you
ANYMORE of me
Me would be no more

And now
I lay upon the cold tiles
Seeing my sadness for miles
Reading your words over & over again

I
Don’t
Love
You
Anymore

And with those words
A year of my life
Disappears in the blink of an eye
And all I can do is cry

The tears run hot
On the cold tile
Understand me when I say
I refuse to smile

I know in time the hurt will fade
But until then
When I write my words
Only four words will be made

I
Still
Love
You
