Lost and Alone

Like a black dot in an endless sea of white

She was alone.

The openness and emptiness was choking her

Slowly encroaching on her space

Trying to make her become like the rest

She was nothing like the rest.

She was a stain in a world of cleanliness

Or so her abusive partner told her

She was tainted, unworthy, and alone.

Until someone reached out to her

Pulling her from the very depths of hell

With a hand that said

“You are worth it

You are not alone

You are loved.”

The hand belonged to an angel

Someone there to help, to understand

She was a professor, an expert on abuse.

I know you, she said

I used to be you

Hurt, let down, alone, scared

When someone else pulled me out of my hell

And I do the same for you

My mission is to research abuse

Research gives me knowledge

It gives me understanding

It lets me make a difference in women’s lives

Being a professor gives me passion

My passion is to help others

My passion is to gain understanding

My passion is to share this knowledge with others

For this one job changed my life

And it will now change yours too.
