the loss of innocence

my darling - what happened to your white dress?

it wasn't long ago that it was new.

and what have you done with your wings? dear god,

what trials and torture they must have been through.

my darling - why do you weep so harshly,

and strike walls with your fists until they bleed?

why must you now turn to swallowing pills

to ease the pain of a lover's misdeed?

my darling - smooth the wrinkles in your dress,

and allow your feathers to fade away.

your life is not over, it just began,

for everyone must lose their wings someday.
