Look Past the Shell

Who am I beneath the skin?

Look past my work

my friends

even my family

I am not who I always appear to be

Nor am I always what I don't appear to be

Look past my work

my future

my past

Take off the glasses

tinted with the view

of what is expected

according to society

The girl has soft, brown curls - natural, no products or curlers

Freckles dot her face

placed perfectly imperfectly

She is short

She doesn't wear make-up

She doesn't wear the latest fashions

She prefers to wear a simple t-shirt and jeans

She is not the ideal girl as decided by society

But her looks don't matter

You'd see that if you looked past everything

Look into my eyes

You'll see a universe of infinite stars

Each star is its own little world

Its own little piece

Of the person that is me

You will find a girl with a heart

She loves to laugh

But she also loves to feel

to care

to cry

She has deep faith in God above

To take care of her

to love her

and bears a cross in her heart

in rembrance of her true Savior.

You will find a girl that has a passion

A passion for music

It's in her heart

It swells, it rises

It falls into the deep recesses of her mind

and she loves to feel the story it tells.

My body is just a shell

Who I really am is inside

Will you be brave enough to take off the glasses?

Will you be brave enough to look past my shell and see me?
