The Long Run

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

My feet pound, steadily against the Earth.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

My eyes fly to the top of the hill,

My heart accepts the challenge.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Drive. Drive. Drive. Drive.

My legs burn.

I think my lungs are collapsing.

Breathe in.

My body quivers beneath me,

My mind whispers

'give up, you're weak, give up'

Breathe out.

I look down and

Drive. Drive. Drive. Drive

I have reached the top.

Breathe...

In.

Out.

In.

Out.

In.

Out.

From here, I can't see the depths I have just ascended from. From here,

I can't see where the trail descends on the other side.

Breathe in.

I can see the sky.

I can see inside my soul.

Breathe out.

I can feel the serenity of this moment, knowing

it will live forever inside of me.

Breathe in.

This moment at the top is why I endure. This is why I

continue my journey from one infinite moment to the next.

Breathe out.

            It's worth it

Breathe in.

            It's awesome.

Breathe out.

             Keep running.
