Long Distance

Laying in bed at night with my eyes wide open.

Sleepless.

Helpless.

The days are numbered,

The hours are quick,

The minutes melt into the next,

The seconds-

Every second is valuable.

I think about our future,

My lips begin to tremble.

Closed eyes briefly.

Eyes wide open once more.

Wet face, racing heart.

Oh, the anxiety.

I look over at you.

Happiness.

Hopefulness.

I hope you are having sweet dreams.

Your slow breaths bring me peace.

My heart beat is slowing.

Inhale.

Exhale.

We can do this, baby.

Distance is no longer just a number,

It’s our battle.

Let’s fight.
