The Lonely Child

I was only 12 years old when my childhood was lost

My rock, my everything was gone in a blink of an eye

the person that I leaned for advice could not speak to me or hold me

I had it all at one point although I did not realize it

All I needed was love

I was only 12 years old when my dad fell into depression

and my little brother and sister were taking away from us by the government

I still remember the crying and screaming

They were only children, two young souls crying to come home

the home that we once lived in for 10 years was not a home anymore

not without my mother, she was the heart of the home

I was just a child when I witnessed my siblings get taken away from us

only a child when we had no electricity in our home and no water to bathe

went days without food to eat

when I sat and watched my father drink his life away

I was a lonely child that lost interest in everything that once made me happy

They say time heals everything but I guess i'm still waiting

waiting for happiness

waiting for a change

waiting for the old me... the happy me

I'll keep waiting...
