Little Black Bird

Location

Whilst playing in the grass,

with my favorite cousins,

I happened to see,

a little black bird.

And the bird cocked its head.

And the  bird chirped.

A couple months later,

my aunt died.

And I knew the bird did it.

At my aunt's funeral,

I happened to see,

a little black bird.

And the bird cocked its head.

And the bird chirped.

A month later,

we became homeless.

And I knew the bird did it.

Whilst carrying boxes

into our new trailor,

I happened to see

a little black bird.

And the bird cocked its head.

And the bird chirped.

Sometime later,

my mom's boyfriend became violent.

And I knew the bird did it.

At a Greyhound station,

waiting for the bus to a new home,

I happened to see

a little black bird.

And the bird cocked its head.

But it could not chirp,

for I threw a rock at it

and killed it.

Two weeks later,

I was rejected by

the entire school.

And I knew the bird did not do it.

Walking home from school,

I happened to see

a large black shadow.

And the shadow cocked its head.

And the shadow laughed.

Ten seconds later,

I was shot by a drive-by.

And I knew the bird had

tried to stop my death.

And I knew I killed it.
