Lionfish

Dayana Nunez                        Glow up, grow up June 10, 2019

Taking it all in, born a little guppy fish,

Nibbling small bites from the world.

Tasting bitter, growing spikes from my fins to become a lionfish,

Friendly fish grabbed by sticky fingers, their lives began to whirl.

Swimming away from my niche,

Seeing seaweed and starfishes moving different.

My scales and fins have ditched,

Feeling slow and cannot grasp this feeling it's different.

Stuck in this place I cannot explain,

In the abyss a light shines through its you, evil.

Is it really you, these upside down thoughts and visions seem feign,

The naval mines start to explode and my blood grows cold, an upheaval.

Seeing bubbles float by the light fades away dark seems to grow,

My gills are gone, away, displaced and then back again.
