Lines

Location

There are such lines to which I am confined.

They are invisible, yet tangible.

Strong, yet changeable.

These lines are here to limit:

To show the traits I truly exhibit.

Though I do not have much love for these lines,

They let me see how I am defined.

To see how I am defined, we must rewind.

We start out a free, a malleable mind;

Too precious for the world to be kind.

From the day we arrive, we are conformed,

And this malleable mind becomes deformed.

When the mouth opens, the mind walks out,

Yet we continually allow the mind to reroute.

We don't speak life, just death,

And with every word goes my breath.

And with my breath goes my voice.

And with my voice goes my choice.

And with my choice goes my freedom.

A gift as inestimable as the land of Eden.

Put it this way, I am as free as a caged bird.

What lies within is beautiful and unheard,

But it is all inhibited within these lines.
