Lilikoi Moments

Backyard vines crawl up the

fence, the plumeria tree,

and eventually reach

the balcony bars.

Dad is waiting for a perfectly ripe

lilikoi to grow there so he can

breathe in the sunshine

swallow a spoonful of the sour delicate seeds

enjoy it

just a few steps from his bed--

a instagram worthy moment.

But for now,

we pick the lilikoi growing below.

Grab that spot of yellow,

collect the sticky fallen fruit,

weaving, ducking under vines,

feet crunch crunching the dry plumeria leaves

and sinking into the unmowed grass that

tickles our ankles, and

enjoy it.
