Lights On!

Lights On!

-Jonell McCray

The darkness in which you had me consumed,

You thought my light was off, but it was only dimmed.

Flickering, in and out… I thought it was lights out for me.

But I discovered the strength in me to keep my light on…

IT IS NO LONGER YOUR TIME TO SHINE!

I’m now strong enough to shine brighter

Not believing in my brightness until you lost control of the circuitry

You feared my illumination so you tried to flip the switch…

BUT I AM TOO COMPLEX!

In your struggle to stay current, I applied more resistance

The result was increased voltage in my heart to leave you behind.

You tried to hold me back but I shocked you,

Electrified, I came to life, and learned to shine without you.
