Life As We Know It

Location

Society is nothing more than the abstract feature of individuals of a community.

What is strange is this specific word is suppose to be all about unity.

Its smile is more crooked and corrupt than a politician,

For togetherness is nowhere in the definition.

You get judged by the flip of a hat,

By those who have never sat down with you to chat,

But I thought we were all the same,

So why kill my spirits, kick me when I’m down and call it fair game.

If you’re pure, then you’re marked as a prude,

A goody-two shoes forever is how you’re viewed.

But if you lost it, then you’re marked as a whore,

Someone bound for nothing; someone lower than the floor.

Once you stare into the eyes of society today,

You realize the people aren’t who they portray.

Who wants to be who they are when they themselves are not admired?

Society has a tight grip on the standards that are required.

If you do not possess text-book beauty or an intellectual mind,

Hideous, gullible, and moronic is how you’re defined.

If you do not go out on Friday night and wake up hung-over on Saturday morning,

You’ll be labeled as naïve and a child, just to be acknowledged as a forewarning.

There is a misconception that in society there’s a middle you can’t resist,

When in all actuality, only a left and a right exist.

Everyone fights for the middle because they are told acceptance lingers near;

Society hopes that its people will never discover the truth, for that’s its biggest fear.

How do we defeat society’s power over our thoughts, our words, and our actions?

It’s quite simple; walk up to a hidden face, take off your mask, and set forth interactions.
