Life. Full Speed Ahead

Location

I just gave my valedictorian's speech.
I just heard my name called.
My friends, my family cheers wildly.
I shake the principal's hand.
I turn my tassel to the right.
I am officially a high school graduate.
I walk out of the gym
unaware that I am on the brink of adulthood.
As cameras flash before my eyes,
so does my life.
How fast seventeen years passes.
How fast will college go by?
The rest of my days lie before me,
A road marked by obstacles, milestones.
And immediately I see a road sign:
Life. Full speed ahead.
As much as I pump the brake, I can't slow down.
Time pulls me on this road. I have no control.
I want to go back, but I can't.
This road is one way only.
I try to pull over. To see things from a different perspective.
But there is no where to pull over.
I try to regain my composure.
I blink three times.
And now I can see everything clearly.
I look before me and I smile.
Because this is what I see:
my life. full speed ahead.
