Letting Me Be Me

I want to be unknown.

          I want to be quiet,

I want to be sheltered.

I want to see the world,

From my bedroom window,

I want to go to space,

In my living room,

          And keep my best friends,

In my mind.

            I want to be alone,

Yet surrounded by life.

But I want to be free.

           I want to be reckless,

I want to live a life of danger:

I want to make the rules,

And bend them,

             I want to break things,

And never be found out.

             I want to be fearless,

Surrounded by my possibilities.

I want my path to be mine.

            No one can manipulate it,

No one can change it.

            Yey my path,

Is malleable.

             It will change with me.

I want to be a doctor,

          For their never ending care.

I want to be a lawyer,

           For their determination.

I want to be a teacher,

            For their compassion.

I want to be an artist,

           For their creativity.

But my dream job,

            Is just to be me.

It will change my life,

            Yet not at all.

I will grow,

           I will change,

I will become

What and who I am meant to be.

My one job,

Will change my life,

By letting me be me.
