A Letter to my Oikos
As you mixed tomatoes in the rice
You gave the rulebook for adolescence
I spat in your face and larked unincited
“The world is a forest outside is dense”
“Your family is a haven don’t forget”
At fifteen my feet hit ignition
My soul a flame my heart unkempt
Blinding euphoria made a fission
And like tyke I tested the fire
You grabbed my wrists saying, “Do not go there”
But with resists I schemed to conspire
Dancing flames undressed my eyes to bare
As I struck seventeen years of age
I retreated from the massed battle
Back to the haven renting the cage
I took the mixer grasping the saddle
