Let's Clear the Water, Here

Sun, 01/04/2015 - 16:27 -- Just So

It's true, I wasn't always this way.

I came into it all on my own.

I didnt need your help

and I didn't need your approval.

Sometimes I wonder what

gave you that idea in the first place.

I am strong, I am stubborn,

and I am capable.

I do things for myself.

Not for you or for anybody else.

At one time, I wanted to be like

all of the other girls.

Sometimes I wonder

what ever got into me.

Why would I want to be like you?

To be dime-a-dozen and nondescript?

You girls are all the same,

selling yourselves short for a little popularity.

You all want to be just like your

pop culture icons. Soulless and perfect.

I know some of you, and I know what you could be.

But you dumb yourselves down

and go with what your 'friends' tell you to do

because it will make you 'cool.'

At least I sleep well at night

with a silent conscience.

I can be true to myself

because I no longer care what you think

and  don't care if you don't like me.

What you think is not my problem.
