Lessons for a Girl

Location

Put down your pencil,

And pay attention to your class,

Not everyone is like you,

They’re all just trying to pass,

You make think that they care,

But they’re all laughing in their reclining chair,

They ask what’s wrong,

Trying to make you feel like you belong,

But they just want to make it,

And to make it you got to fake it,

That boy who says he loves you,

Just want to get you in private and show you a thing or two,

That girl that says she will be your best friend forever,

Is just waiting for you to fail on an endeavor,

That drug you’re trying to hide behind,

Is starting to control your life and you’re just blind,

When you procrastinate,

People will never want you to be their candidate,

If you submit to depression,

People will always know your facial expression,

A fake smile and big teeth will help to get you through the day,

But when you’re in your room crying all you are is radioactive decay,

I’m trying to educate you on the failed excuses,

So don’t even try them because they’re all just useless,

You can’t hide behind a noun,

It needs a verb to be jot down,

So if you fail this class that’s all on you,

Two roads diverged and you pick the worst of two,

There is always going to be choices,

And in your head there will be a million different voices,

Should you cheat you could get caught,

Should you skip school and have a vacation spot,

Should you disrespect your teacher,

And get a consequence of a double feature,

Should you fight your classmate,

And put in question if you’ll graduate.

So now that you know the don’ts let’s talk about the dos

No one else will understand you because they don’t stand in your shoes,

Be true to yourself and respect others around you

Because you’re beautiful and that’s my point of view

Remember to take a stand and fight for what you believe in,

You owe it to the world to be a socially conscious human being,

Expand your horizon and open up your mind,

Allow yourself to become redefined,

Being a lady isn’t just about being proper,

It’s knowing who you are and being able to prosper,

So if you want to pass this class,

Then you have to learn through a magnifying glass,

Not everything is what it appears,

Look a little closer and you’ll find the souvenirs,

Make the best choices for your own life,

Because if you don’t you’ll end up in a strife,

This class has a pretty good passing rate,

But it’s up to you to determine your own fate,

The only grade you’ll receive is the one you earn,

So make it count before you get to the point of no return,

This is important so don’t just put it on the shelf,

Don’t get lost in the crowd just remember to be yourself.
