Leaning, Living

“Have fun, make new friends, Bo peep”

The first of many partings.

“Bye mommy, I’m going to fine, don’t weep”

And she found she didn’t need to lean.

“You’ll always be my pumpkin” She reminded.

The mother, ever-loving

“I love you too, but now I am aged”

And she found she didn’t need to lean.

“Please drive safely, because we love you”

He nervously hands her the keys.

“I’ll be back soon, I love you too”

And she found she didn’t need to lean.

“You don’t need to do this, you are beautiful”

She holds her and they cry.

“It’s the only way I can handle it all”

But she found she didn’t need to lean.

“But you told me you loved me so many times”

His sobs choke the words.

“I know. I’m sorry. The worst of my crimes”

But she found she didn’t need to lean.

“This isn’t working.” And he fled.

The boy who told her to stay.

That was the first night she cried in bed

And she felt she didn’t need to lean.
