Land Unknown

The woods were to my right

The ocean to the left,

But when I close my eyes

I am taken to a land unknown.

It is a land with a soft voice

But also a land with a strong spirit

A land where you were valued

No matter the “status quo”

However, it was not a land of milk and honey

Nor a land candy drops and rainbows

The sky seemed partially sunny,

And the clouds were coming in rows.

It leaves me breathless each time I visit

For, it was my  land unknown,

It wasn’t small and quaint

Or large and faint.

It was all you ever wanted to know.

It was where you ever wanted to grow.

It was there you wanted it to be your home.

It was a place where time seemed to go slow.

All of your life,

You were taught to look left and right

But safety was never an issue.

Where illnesses were smited,

Diseases are dying,

And not a frown to be known.

The fauna was happy,

And the flora was healthy,

A place only touched by the greenest of thumbs.

Your cheeks started to grow numb,

As you did a little twirl.

Your mind began to wonder,

It began to whirl.

You open your eyes and look to the left,

You can see the foggy day

With the crashing waves against the rocks.

You turn your head and look to the right,

You can see the dying trees

With all of the falling leaves alone in the darkness.

Before your mind filled with fear,

And before you cried that unshed tear,

A new hope began to flood through you.

Your land was not perfect

Your land was not extravagant

Matter of fact your land was perfectly unperfect

Because it was a land unknown.
