Lady Liberty Has Promised

Behold America, with skyscrapers tall
Which cover the once spacious skies
And which glass shines in the sunlight
That gleams on teary eyes

Those who dream to see this land
Are stuck behind, in terrible places
With feet so weary, and knees so weak
And all over, fear in their faces.

So why, if America, have you progressed
Is it that children cry in fear
When guns report in war-torn countries
So loud, it's all they can hear?

Why do they have to face
Deserts, dry and huge
With desert wind, and desert heat
Where they hope to fing refuge?

They all came for one sole purpose
To escape from their strife
They bring along all their children
So they will live a better life.

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

You see, they do not come uninvited
They expect America to be honest
And keep their word, as it was said
What Lady Liberty has promised.
