The Lady Josephine

Location

She walked along the reeds by day,

Trails of silks and treasure troves around her like clay,

Her heart a Pandora’s Box as she bows her head to pray,

God forsake her if she stay,

Her tale, a common witch’s say,

The Lady Josephine.

Her golden locks, a shining ray,

Torn apart by lovers gay,

Hatred billowed as she lay,

Confessed her sins, then turned away,

Immersed in all the lies she made,

The Lady Josephine.

She left it all in disarray,

All her withering bones decay,

Turned her crimson cheeks to grey,

Smoke and mirrors kept her thoughts at bay,

Sold her soul in all the fray,

The Lady Josephine.

Tender eyes led her mind astray,

Drowned her will in an icy bay,

Felt her beating heart betray,

Revealed the price she’d have to pay,

The Lady Josephine.

Wind has caused her stone to brake,

Dying earth before her grave,

With her blood, their hands are stained,

Her cry as shrill as blackened jays,

The Lady Josephine.
