The Kiss of V-J Day in Times Square

There are people walking in the street

A checkered pattern of black and white

Trying carefully to be discrete

In watching the happy victory sight

A man of honor and happiness too

Stood to the right of the couple in grey

And what appeared to be out of the blue

A kiss began in the joy of VJ

A woman of grey stood behind the couple

Mouth open wide and eyes full of wonder

She could all but stop being quite cheerful

Though stuck in a frame without bright color

Even though this picture is very old

It speaks of the brave, the few, the bold
