A Kind of Life

You are a vegetable

Or so I was told

But my first taste was sour,

I did not like it

I was different

"Keep trying," They said, but there has been no change

"Did you know a tomato is actually a fruit?"

No, no I can't be

"But a tomato has seeds, like a fruit"

Fruits are sweet, though--no one eats a tomato pie, or tomato bread

They eat carrot cake, but carrots are only vegetables

Am I fruit? Or vegetable?

I am treated as vegetable, but am in part fruit

I do not know

Can I be both?
