Kelly

A phone call that turns

Your world upside down.

A car crash that makes

Tears stream to the ground.

Helplessness, weakness

Nothing I can do,

To save my best friend

Or her family dying too.

The doctors all said

She’ll never make it.

Her mother’s casket

Placed on a blanket.

How could I have faith

She would be okay?

I can’t lose that girl!

She brightens my day!

But I built up strength,

Gazed into her eyes.

That sixteen year old

Swollen in disguise.

Tears caked to her face,

I had remained strong.

And choked back my tears

For she looked near gone.

Why remain stable?

You may want to ask.

It is quite simple:

Friendship was my task.

Kelly held a burden

Much greater than mine.

And I’ll love that girl,

Til’ the end of time.
