Just the Color Blue

By Desiree Trujillo

People say blue is when you’re sad.

I say blue is bad!

Like surfers riding the big Kahuna wave.

Or walking on the pebble stones,

Cool, wet, and smooth.

I think blue is bad!

People say blue is the color of a sapphire.

I say the color blue is the crashing of the ocean waves on a sunny day.

Or my master piece of splat blue paint on a canvas.

Watch out Picasso,

Here I come Van Gough.

I say blue is bad!

People say blue sounds like jazz music.

I say blue sounds like a winter wind.

Cars honk, ocean waters crash.

That’s the sound of blue to me.

I say blue is bad!

People say the sky is blue.

I see blue as a sleek, elegant dress and shiny nail polish.

Elvis’s blue suede shoes and the nights’ blue moon.

I say blue is bad!

People say blue feels soft.

I say blue feels cool, minty fresh like a stick of gum from Dentyne Ice.

Like mining a gem in its natural state all rough and tough.

Then elated in the end

I say blue is bad!

People smell blue as a sweet scented candle.

I smell blue as crisp, clean jeans out of the machine.

Feeling high off a blue permanent marker.

I say blue is bad!

People say that there are not many animals that can be associated with blue

I say yes, there are.

Blue Jays, peacocks, whales, blue crabs, snakes, and marlins too.

I say blue is bad.

Now I ask what do you say about blue?

I say it’s just the color blue and it is good.
