A Journey

There are things that bring a smile
And brighten one's day
But there are times when a
Bit of doubt
Grief, anger, hopelessness
Fight for attention
Obscuring one's view
Until it seems like joy is lost.

But there is always time
A small journey
Both physical and mental
Will bring you back
Where laughter is often heard
And smiles still make it past
Even when nothing seems right
And self-doubt hits its peak.

The directions are simple
Gather family, friends, things that make you happy
Immerse yourself in what you love
Like biking with siblings
Eating Mom's food (or Dad's!)
Singing (or shouting) along with songs
Impromptu plans with friends
The smell of home
And the feel of familiar blankets
As you drift off to sleep.

The journey varies for each person
But in the end
Through your efforts and optimism
You can bring sunlight back
Into your life.
