It's Cold Inside

Location

It’s cold inside,

But no one else seems to notice

Except the poor boy

Who lies in his room, eyes swollen.

He’s been cold the past few days now.

Months, years, actually,

But he’s too afraid to tell anyone

And to face reality.

He knows all too well

How bitter the world can be.

His parents always yell,

And evil steals the hearts of many;

An ever-stretching sea.

So he lies alone and under the covers,

But he can’t hide

From the coldness around him

As he shudders.

The coldness has already

Seeped into his heart and soul.

Now he is just a graveyard;

Cold and dull.

He constantly struggles to be

The same as before;

Kind, happy, and caring,

But it’s impossible when his heart’s

A shadowy closed door.

Everyone expects too much from him;

He only receives disappointment

And never positive reinforcement

From the ones he cares about.

“Where’s the old Garrett?”

They all question him repeatedly.

“Him and all his emotions died

Because of all the hate and lies,”

He whispers to himself quietly.

It’s cold inside,

And his heart is freezing,

But no one seems to care

How he is fairing.

So as he lies clutching his chest,

He pleads to the heavens afar,

“Please help me,

I can’t feel my heart.”
