It ends tonight

It ends tonight
Our battle to be equals ends tonight
How can we look our children in the eyes and tell them that they live
in the land of equal opportunity when in fact they do not
How can we hate each other when we are the same?
How can we kill each other when we bleed the same?
How can we torture each other when we suffer the same?
Why do we make a world already cruel and evil even worse?
This ends tonight
Tonight it shall be still
And tomorrow we shall wake to see each other as equals
There will be no judging by color
There will be no hate crimes
We will sit together
Laugh together
Cry together
Grow together
As it should be
We will not longer scorn each other
We will flourish as people
As Americans
