On An Island

Being on an island...

What would I need?

Would I need another person?

Would I need an object?

Would I need an animal?

There are so many things I could take.

Being on an island...

I would not take a phone

I would not take a book

I would not take a car or a stuffed bear or my first blankie

I guess I woudn't take an object there.

Being on an island...

I would not take my cat

I would not take an elephant

I would not take a lion or tiger or bear...

although that might make the end of this poem quicker

Being on an island...

I would not take many people

but I would take one.

Not my mom or my dad

not my brother or my favorite tv show character

but my best friend.

Being on an island...

we would build a shack

we would swim all day

and sit around a fire all night.

We would drink coconuts by the ocean

and never worry about what tomorrow may bring.

Being on an island...

we would last  a lifetime

whether it's two days

a week

or a hundred years

we would be on the island together

as the two best friends there ever were

On an Island.
