Inspiration

It will find you

as soon as you forget

in an off-task moment

in a time you wouldn’t bet

it is hidden underneath

the patterns of the clouds

it is tucked nicely inside

a room too loud with sound

it will find you

as you write a grocery list

it is between milk and eggs

but only if you don’t insist

As you lie awake at night

staring at the ceiling

it just might jump out

and smack you with a feeling

that will keep you up all night

with a pen and a pad

scribbling down the genius

that you have had

because inspiration

only inspires those

who know it when they see it

and look for it in every rose

and every sunset and track of train

until the moment it lands

and when it does, it has far more worth

than a million golden mounds of sand
