There is a man quite dear to me
who I’ve known for many years.
He knows all of my feelings,
and understands my fears.

He lets me know what’s rational,
what’s within my expectations.
He sets all of my boundaries
and all my limitations.

While I work he watches me
And whispers sound advice,
“You know that isn’t perfect” or
“That clearly is not right”

With a grimace on his face
He frowns upon my work.
Asking why I bother
when I really should give up.

Although he is so dear to me
I wish that he would leave.
Stop being such a pessimist,
Stop questioning my dreams.

He knows I do not want him
but has nowhere else to go.
He is the doubt that lives inside me,
and I must conquer him alone.
