We see things unfair,

But do not seem to care.

We pretend not to see, think "At least it's not me".

But it is.

Some look back with subdued pride,

or even defiance in their eyes.

If asked they might say, "Money's not in our way!".

But it is

As my verses must lengthen, so too the gap grows.

This crime is no secret, for everyone knows.

Yet we stand idly by! Where's the patriot's cry?

Will we lie down and take it, or stand up and make it?

Apathy seems to rule the day.

As corruption, manipulation and lassitude play.

This isn't just up to the people in power!

There are far more people than them! Nigh is the hour!

Maybe they did fail us. Maybe they broke their pact.

But to blame them is useless, what we need is to act!

The reason things didn't work is we didn't make them!

Those who say it's hopeless? The devil may take them!

I've seen rich and poor, and I confess stand closer to the latter.

But even if I had six yachts, I feel that wouldn't matter!

The fact remains, wherever you stand, this problem has quickly gotten out of hand.

If you sit on the side with all of the money, you may find my outrage peculiar or funny...

But LET ME ASSURE YOU! My passion's not fake!

I'm going to college, my future to make!

I am there to improve myself, not drink or smoke!

But despite A's and aid, my family's going broke!

As my verses shrink now, so too does our money.

My path isn't easy, a doctor I'll be.

That takes dedication, commitment, hard work.

I can make those things happen, but one problem lurks:

The prices! To go there, to eat in their halls!

Of all pressures, money's the greatest pitfall.

This is where I'm from, where money is tight.

And the numbers keep me awake into the night.

Education is key! This is how we advance!

But it costs so much, many don't get the chance.

We must make us equal, we must right the wrong!

No, the journey's not easy, it will surely be long.

But imagine: if we all could pay

And knowledge and opportunity played

In our houses of law, so the changes were made

That would finally bring us to that unknown day:

When all the men who were 'created equal', lived that way.

Will we lie down and take it, or stand up and make it?
