If You do Love Me

If you do love me

it is more than just the words.

You may have me

but you can lose me;

I can be there

and be gone the next.

"I love you"

is meant to be a proclamtion of affection

but an echo in the distance

just the same.

If you do love me

I will see it in your eyes,

know it in your actions,

and feel it in your touch.

Through your hands I should feel your gentleness,

and with your words hear your honesty.

With your actions

compassion will be displayed

and when you do not speak your eyes will do so instead.

Under star filled skies

I wish to talk of our lives,

of our future and our past.

For when I understand the true meaning

behind your showers of affection,

"Because I love you",

will show me colors before my eyes.

My world will shift

and everything will be clearer

because our relationship will be much more than love

and something even more.
