If Only She Could Talk

I will no longer lift my lamp

Beside this tarnished door.

My arm is tired. So few believe

In what I stand for anymore.

Once I was a beacon

Of hope and liberty.

I stood there proudly watching

Masses yearning to breathe free.

This country was still the best

Of all that could ever be,

But from my vantage point

Betrayal is what I see.

We've turned our back on principles

That made this country strong;

Committed acts both here and there

Turned all that's right to wrong.

So go about your lives,

The powers that be have spoken,

And I, Lady of Liberty, am sorry

For the promises we've broken.
