If Only

If only my young black brothers and sisters

were taught our history

what a different world it would be.

If only my young black brothers

were taught there was a better way

to keep the lights on than slangin' and gang bangin'

what a different world it would be.

If only my young black sisters

were taught that you don't have to be

lighter to be considered a beauty,

what a different world it would be.

Oh, if only...
