If I Were Silent

If I were silent I would be a work of art

Molded by the hands of a multi cultural Davinci

Crafted with only the finer features of my diverse backgrounds

Hispanic, Black, White

If I were silent, I would be nothing more than a person’s #WCW

Their goals distracted by just a cute face

With hashtags that only define my appearance

“Flawless”, “Wifey material”, “Bae”

If I were silent, I would merely be a fly on the wall

Listening, for only I know my ideas would surprise them all

My presence in conversation practically non-existent

“just another pretty face”

But I am not silent, for I have been educated

Watching my parents strive for what is best for me

I take advantage of every opportunity

That has been made available to me

But I am not silent, for as long as I can remember

My ideas were always current and well thought out

For there were no moments when I had to fill my statements with grunts such as

“Uhhhhh”, “HMMMMM”, “PHHH”

But I am not silent, for I have become an active debater in controversial topics

Voicing my opinions and speaking out for those who are too scared

Not worrying about who disagrees

Knowing that I will inspire somebody someday

If I were silent, many people would like me

because they think I am pretty

But you see that life is not for me

I am not silent, because my ideas mean so much more to me

I strive for mental stimulation and not popularity

My beliefs are not something to be hidden but shared
