Icarus and the Sun

When he gazes at her it is in full view of her beauty and to spite those,

who say he shouldn't,

He is in love with her.

Her skin is warm. So warm that he thinks she might be able to warm his heart,

He is in love with her.

To his friends he speaks of dreams that seem millions of miles away,

He is in love with her.

She comes out once a day and he basks in her glory from his spot on the ground,

He is in love with her.

Her rays touch the grass and he envies them for her warm caress,

He is in love with her.

She waits for him across an unimaginable distance,

He is in love with her.

Arms swinging with the wind to carry him to her,

He is in love with her.

Her heat is more beautiful up close, it softens the wax, but he is finally warm,

He is in love with her.

Wax wings were never meant to be close to someone made with so much passion,

He is in love with her.

Their gazes meet as he falls and he grins,

He is in love with her.

His body burns from scorching trails of wax that blaze down his back,

He is in love with her.

Head thrown back and eyes raised to the heavens he bares his teeth,

fighting as if to dare the gods to take this away from him,

He is in love with her.

Eyes sparkling with tears ripped from his eyes as he plumets,

He is in love with her.
