I Write To Dance
Location
Dancing
I love to dance
Afro-Caribbean Dance
Pulsing with the beat of the drum
Dunham Technique
Feeling my muscles stretch, pull, protest
The best moments are when the logic of my brain is silenced
My muscles take over and conscious thoughts cease
Poetry is like dancing
Pulsing with emotions
Stretching my imagination and capacity for vocabulary
At the keyboard
My fingers running across the keys
Scrap paper and writing implement
My fingers fisted around a pen
The best moments are when words flow uncontrived
My imagination takes over and conscious thought cease
My poetry doesn’t rhyme
My poetry is embedded in stream of consciousness emails
My poetry is woven into the notebook sheets of journals
My poetry is hidden amongst hundreds of saved Word documents
My poetry is tucked away on the scratch sheets of paper
Sometimes, my poetry doesn’t make sense
My poetry is unplanned
Emotion driven
When emotions have no other outlet
When human conversation is insufficient
The keyboard
The paper
Absorb my thoughts
Pulsing with emotions
Stretching my imagination and capacity for vocabulary
Poetry? It’s like dancing.
