I Will Confess In Time

Wed, 11/08/2017 - 00:44 -- Flh25

Time and time again
I try to express how I feel about you,
And time and time again
I fail.
If I knew all the words in the English language,
I would spend every minute at my disposal
Perfecting this art,
Until I could present you with a portrait of paper
Painted with pen and one purpose:
To confess.

This need to make my confession
Beautiful and sincere,
Is not from obsession,
But to answer one question
And to make it clear.
Both our minds harbor
“How do we know we’re good for each other?”
I wonder the same thing
But these are the reasons I ponder:

I love your warmth,
The strong embrace,
My place of rest
Where I feel safe.
In return,
I give to you
Acts of affection,
Not one or two,
But countless kisses,
My lips, your cheek,
Comfort in silence,
You look at me.
I look at you.
I cannot speak.
The world! The world!
She is smiling at me!
I tell you a story.
It seems you find them amusing.
You get a good laugh.
I hear your laugh; it’s like music.
Kindness, compassion
Two things that we share,
What lets couples flourish,
A daisy in spring air,
And three more things that we add
To let us bloom until fall.
My most beloved flower
You offer them all.
I can cry in your arms
And feel no less of a man.
Solace, empathy, respect,
Through winter,
we offer again and again.

I’ve given you my reasons.
Why I’m taking so long.
Why I’m waiting for it.
And why I feel it in the first place.
It’s because I love you.
