I wasn't, I am

I wasn't the smartest in class

I wasn't the best on the team

I sometimes came last

At least that's how it seemed

I aimed to make you proud

I hoped to see you smile

But I didn't stand out in the crowd

And it hurt for awhile

I was so worried about you

And making you happy

I lost sight of the truth

That I must reflect on me

I am stronger than I thought

I am a warrior in the field

The more I fought

The thicker my shield

I'm proud of who I see

In the mirror everyday

I hope you're proud of me

True to myself, I will stay
