As I walk up and

As I walk up and down the hall

I feel the teachers eye on me.

I am an intelligent woman

far from average.

But all they see is my skin tone and a head full of nappy hair.

I try to succeed but I get knocked back down

I ask myself, Is it because of my beautiful brown skin I did not get a part in the program? or is it that you are threatened by my confidence and my stride?

How am i suppose to succeed when you do not see me for the real me?

It hurts in side, i am very sensitive.

However, I try not to cry in fear that you will judge me more than you already do.

I see you are staring me in my eyes

intimidated by my brown skin and my intelligence.

I will succeed in a black and white world.

Watch and see.

They say eyes are the windows to the soul.

Can you see mine?
